Catch-up

What should you bring to a catch-up tax appointment?

2026-10-19 · 5 min read · Tax Everyday, Vaughan

Bring the years, not a speech. A catch-up appointment works when we can see the last year that was filed and the first year that was not. Everything else is detail. If you have nothing on paper, bring yourself and the email address CRA uses. We would rather start from an empty folder than from a story that changes twice.

For a personal catch-up the core is: photo ID, social insurance number, date of birth, current address, marital status, and the names and dates of birth of children who lived with you. Add the last Notice of Assessment you can find. Then the slips, year by year. You do not need to sort them perfectly. You do need to keep 2022 out of the 2024 pile.

Add these if they apply

Most delayed files are ordinary until one of these shows up. Say so in the first five minutes.

  • Self-employment: a spreadsheet or bank statements, plus any platform annual summary.
  • Rental: the address, the rent received, the mortgage interest, property tax, and insurance.
  • A corporation: articles, the fiscal year-end, minute book if you have one, business number, and bank statements.
  • HST: the RT number, the reporting period, and a list of returns you know you skipped.
  • CRA mail: demands to file, arbitrary assessments, benefit letters, collections letters. These change the order of work.
  • A spouse’s name even if they are not in the room.

What happens after you hand it over

We tell you which years look straightforward and which years have to be quoted. A straightforward personal year is $90 plus HST. A ready self-employed year is $650 plus HST. A ready corporate package year is $2,000 plus HST. Multi-year catch-up is quoted. Nothing is filed until you approve the return.

You can bring this to 3300 Steeles Ave W in Vaughan, any day from 8 to 8, or you can drop the same documents online and book the appointment for the review. Both paths reach info@taxeveryday.com.

Short answers

What if I do not know my SIN by heart?+

Bring the card, a prior notice, or any letter that shows the nine digits. Any nine-digit number you were issued is enough to start. Do not skip the appointment because you are unsure of a digit. Check it before we file.

Do I bring receipts for every coffee?+

No. Bring records that support a claim you want made: childcare, medical, donations, rent, and business expenses with a total. A bag of unsorted personal receipts slows the file down.

Want this applied to your file?

These notes are general. A return is prepared only after we see your slips.
